LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Health advisors want you to prepare for what could be a rough flu season.

The Texas Department of State Health Services has classified this flu season as high, after reported cases of the illness are up 3.5 percent from this week a year ago.

Sarah Roach at the Gregg County Health Department says if you or your child shows extreme flu-like symptoms, seek medical attention.

"You can tell if your child is in distress. If the fever gets too high, obviously."

Health advisors also suggest you get a flu shot, if you haven't already gotten one. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the flu kills more than 23 thousand people every year.
