Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Scientists have uncovered new genes, pathways and cell types that could increase the risk of rheumatoid arthritis.

It's a chronic inflammatory disorder that usually affects the joints and can be painful and disabling.

The study published in the journal Nature looked at more than 100,000 people of European and Asian descent.

Scientists found a definitive list of major genetic variations, which could lead to new therapies to treat the disorder.

(CBS) - Scientists from the United States and Mexico have discovered a new genetic clue that could determine if a person is at risk for Type 2 diabetes.

People who have the newly identified gene are 25 percent more likely to develop diabetes.

And People who inherited the gene from both parents are 50 percent more likely.

Scientists believe the gene might explain why Mexican and other Latin American populations are at greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

(CBS) - Researchers in Boston have identified a potential treatment for dry eye disease.
