TYLER (KYTX) A fire in the 6300 block of Sutherland in Tyler destroyed the home however the homeowner and two dogs are alive. The fire started around 3:45 Sunday afternoon.

It didn't take long for fire fighters to realize they had a huge job on their hands.

"Trying to do an interior  attack that was probably our biggest challenge," said Deputy Fire Marshal Tony Gumber.

Gumber said, the inside of the home was filled with flames by the time they got there.

"With the holiday, heavy traffic slow responds someone the fire had a big head started," he said.

The flames were so intense, firefighters from another station had to be called.

Cell phone video from a viewer, shows flames shooting through the roof, sending smoke billowing into the air.

"The fire vented itself through the roof before we ever got close to doing an interior attack," Gumber said.

No one was inside this home went it up in flames, however, two dogs were later found in the backyard safe and uninjured.

Fire crews said as the flames took over the home, loose ammunition started going off.

"As long it's not in a weapon  it's not going to hurt anyone," said Gumber.

Witnesses said at times the flames were shooting up into the trees, and burning down the eaves of the home.

"So there was a lot of fire in the attic and a lot of heavy smoke to deal with."

Officials believe the fire started in the sunroom, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
