H1N1 death confirmed in East Texas

NACOGDOCHES (KYTX) - The H1N1 flu virus has claimed the life of a man in Nacogdoches.

Hospital officials at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital tell CBS 19, the patient died Saturday after being hospitalized for several weeks with the flu.

Beth Knight, Chief Nursing Officer says the name of the patient is not being released but was a male in his 50's.

Meanwhile, ETMC in Tyler confirms a patient tested positive for the H1N1 virus during the week of December 22.

A total of 59 patients tested positive for the flu, and one of those cases came back positive for the H1N1 virus.

Texas leads the nation in reported flu and H1N1 cases.

Health officials continue to urge people to get a flu shot if they have not already done so.
