Bike Trail Repairs

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Dozens of bikes Along with hoes, takes, and hammers. All to ride and clear out this old track, Mountain biker Michael Benard says he has enjoyed this hobby for years.

"It's just something I've always loved, and I have been riding since I was a kid."
"The Longview Bicycle club is making strides in getting more people in east Texas excited about riding."
The club operates and maintains many public and private mountain bike trails around the city. 2014 President Elect Jim Tilley says today is to ensure another option to ride.
"We are here to clear away some shrubs, and make more defined path for the riders."
In June of 2013, the group approached the city of Longview wanting a new Mountain Bike Trail. After approval by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and City Council, Longview Bicycle Club volunteers cleared a path for the trail behind Maude Cobb Convention Center. The club works hard to maintain it and other trails in the area.
"these trails get overgrown, or worn out for whatever reason, and they got to be taken care of.  That is why we are here."
For avid riders like Michael he says the labor of maintaining these trails, gives him a better option to bike on.
"The road is kind of boring. And there is a lot of traffic. not biker friendly."
