Arctic blasts expected to drop east Texas temperatures

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - The temperatures are plummeting in east Texas and that means it's time for us to take special care of our pipes, plants, pets and even yourself with the frigid forecast.

CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey spoke to east Texans who are bracing for the colder temperatures to come.

There's a shortage of spring leaves and runners at Rose Rudman Trail. It's a sign that winter is here.

"I don't like it at all, I'm used to the warm weather," said Colton Querry who was visiting the park with his family.

Querry spends the majority of his days in the cold for his job.

"The doors are always open and the wind is blowing through there like crazy and I'm out there every day," he said.

As a native Texans, he said he couldn't imagine dealing with arctic blasts -- like what's blanketing many north eastern states with snow and ice.

"If it's below 40 we're pretty cold," said trail runner Brooke Gray.

She and her running buddy, and Canada native Naomi Lewis have separate views on the east Texas wintry weather.

"It's actually not too bad," said Lewis.

Many places across the united states are experiencing extreme weather. Although east Texans don't have to worry about blizzards, meteorologist say, temperatures are going to drop.

"This is the coldest I've seen in about two years," said CBS 19's chief meteorologist John Adams.

He said temperatures will drop to the teens over the next few days. With the high winds expected to make it's way east, it's going to feel even colder.

"The north winds take the heat away form the body, you lose heat faster...even though the thermometer might be 15 it may feel like or effect the body like it's five degrees," Adams said.

As the temps drop, remember to cover exposed pipes, make sure your pets are brought inside or have adequate housing, and check on your neighbors to make sure they have heat...

Adams says, it will be cold, but he sees no rain or snow in the forecast.

"As long as it's not bad weather , cold is doable," said Gray.
