TYLER (KYTX) - The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Health and Kinesiology is seeking women to participate in an exercise research study, Dr. Pam Martin, College of Nursing and Health Sciences interim dean, announced.

Participants must be 55 years or older and have their physician's approval.

Those interested must attend one of two orientation sessions scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 in the UT Tyler Herrington Patriot Center.

Designed to improve fitness, balance, vascular health and help prevent osteoporosis, the program will be led by Dr. Joyce Ballard, a well-known exercise physiologist and UT Tyler professor who has had extensive experience conducting exercise programs and osteoporosis research studies with older age groups.

Each participant will be paired with a kinesiology student who will act as a personal trainer. The eight-week morning classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Feb. 25.
