Update: Elderly man dies in Smith County Fire

UPDATE: Smith County recorded  its first fire fatality of the year Wednesday after a fire  swept through a mobile home located in Arp.

The Smith County Fire Marshal's Office says the lone occupant, a 93-year-old man died in the blaze.

Firefighters were called out just before 3 a.m. Wednesday to the 19,000 block of Highway 135.

Smith County Fire Marshal Jim Seaton says the man's wife recently died and was living alone. Seaton is not releasing his identity right now.

Seaton says the home is a total loss.

He does not know how the fire started at this time.
Arp, Chapel Hill, Troup, and Whitehouse fire departments responded to help put out the fire.
