One person dead, 3 injured in East Texas Crash

HENDERSON CO. (KYTX) - A Balch Springs, TX. man was killed in a two vehicle accident in Henderson County Tuesday.

State Troopers report a car driven by 64-year-old Billy "Blue" Edwards was traveling East on Highway 175, just west of Athens when he collided with a truck attempting to change lanes in an unsafe zone.

Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his car, 53-year-old Vicki Reyna also of Balch Springs, is listed in stable condition at ETMC Athens.

Investigating troopers report the truck driven by 60-year-old Edward Sparkman of Mabank was attempting to change lanes unsafely, and forced Edwards vehicle into the median. Edwards car then struck Sparkmans' truck in the opposite lane.

Sparkman is hospitalized in serious condition. A passenger in Sparkman's truck, 43-year-old Raynel Joiner of Tool is also hospitalized and is listed in stable condition.

Occupants of both vehicles were wearing sealt belts, according to DPS.

The fatal wreck occurred at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.
