Dennis Rodman apologizes for North Korea outburst, says he'd been drinking

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) - Dennis Rodman says he'd been drinking when he made an angry outburst on CNN this week -- and he also says he is sorry.

Rodman's publicist issued an apology this morning, on behalf of the controversial former NBA star. The eccentric basketball veteran is in North Korea, where he led a team of American pro ballers against a North Korean team in honor of North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un.

On Tuesday, Rodman appeared on CNN and became angry and combative when asked about Kenneth Bae, an American being held in a North Korean prison camp. In a written statement, Rodman apologized to Bae's family, as well as his teammates, management and CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.

Rodman said he -quote- "embarrassed a lot of people" and that he is "truly sorry". He also said the day of the interview was very stressful, and he had been drinking. Rodman's team played the north Korean team yesterday and lost. There's no word yet on when he'll return to the U.S.
