ETBU Launches New Program for Peace Officers

Posted: Updated:

MARSHALL (KYTX) - EAst Texas Baptist University is getting ready to begin its new law enforcement program.

The school will become the first in the state of Texas to allow students to earn a 4 year degree and also complete a license to become a peace officer.  The idea is to make a simpler path for students - to become apart of law enforcement.
According to Assistant Professor William Griffith he says usually students would have to go to college, and then a police academy. Now it's two birds with one stone. But it will take a lot of work.

"We are trying to make better officers. From better fitness to being able to communicate better, and treating subjects better."

Before entering the program students will have to pass 2 background check, a physical, and meet a 2.5 gpa. The new program will begin it's inaugural semester this fall.
