Businesses, volunteers dust up Longview garden, courtyard

Posted: Updated:
LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Two Longview businesses joined volunteers today and restored a garden at The A.R.C. of Gregg County.

The A.R.C. serves more than 40 people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Development Director Amy Canton says people use the courtyard and garden for lunch or quiet alone time outdoors, but acid from 200-year-old oak trees at the arc damaged the garden's plants and trees.

"This was actually a Leadership Longview project from 2011," Canton said. "It used to just be a plain tract of dirt, and they raised $20,000 and made us a garden."

Today, volunteers from Buckner Westminter Place and Bloom's Landscaping took out rakes, new soil and their own hands to bring the garden back to life.
