Smith County stabbing victim identified, case remains under investigation

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE :(KYTX) - Smith Co. Sheriff's investigators are questioning several people after a stabbing sent one man to the hospital.

John Moore with the Smith County Sheriff's Office says an argument between several people led to the stabbing Monday night in the 10,000 block of West Lakshore Dr. off Hwy 31 in Smith County.

Around 7 p.m., a Smith County deputy was dispatched to a disturbance at the residence. The deputy responding to the call determined that 29-year-old Jermaine Lamar Benson had arrived home and was allegedly intoxicated when a verbal altercation began between Benson and his wife. The altercation turned violent when Benson allegedly began assaulting his wife.

Two maintenance men, who were at the residence working on the heating system, tried to intervene to protect the woman. Benson then allegedly attacked both of the men. One of the men, in what appears to be self-defense, stabbed Benson to stop the attacks.

Benson was taken to a local hospital for treatment and surgery. His condition is unknown at this time.
