We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

JACKSONVILLE (KYTX) - The anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade court decision legalizing abortions is Wednesday. With recent Texas legislation requiring abortion facilities to adhere to new standards many locations had to close or stop performing the procedure.

Of the 40 or so Texas clinics that performed abortions only about half a dozen were able to meet the requirements when the law went into effect.

CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey eexplain what options are available to east Texans -- as we near this historic anniversary.

All over Texas, since the quote "Texas Abortion Bill" , women have had to leave the state or travel long distances to get abortions.

The closest locations offering abortions are in the Dallas area and Shreveport. Sspecialist said recently because of those legislative changes, more women are taking advantage of reproductive planning and counseling.

Abortion is a topic that won't soon go away or be ignored  especially in Texas where a new law last year revolutionized standards for clinics that perform the procedure.

"We're going to continue to talk about this in Austin continue to talk about this in our country, this is the civil right issue of our day," said Texas representative Matt Schaefer.

Schaefer is one of the many state representatives backing a bill passed this past summer requiring facilities performing abortions to adhere to new requirements.

"Our roll as the health department is to try to make women aware of  their choices and help them own their own health," said nurse practitioner Elaine Ballard with the Cherokee County Public Health Department.

She said since passing the "Texas Abortion Bill" the county health offices has seen a spike in women coming in for reproductive planning help. She said that's the first step in women owning their health, which is a good thing

"So there's a lot of option now available and I think that's really  great for women to have those choices," Ballard said.

Over the years, the choices of types of  birth control have grown. There are implants, condoms, oral contraceptives, contraceptive rings, patches, shots, and abstinence.

Ballard said, "The most important thing is understanding the choices, make choices up front rather than reactively."
