TYLER (KYTX) -- Stamp prices are rising next week marking the biggest increase the U.S. Postal Service has seen in a decade. That means more money out of your pocket and a financial hit to organizations that help East Texans in need.

Prices are rising from $0.46 to $0.49.  A few pennies may not seem like a lot but it can add up if you're a business or nonprofit that does mass mailings. The Salvation Army in Tyler will have to cough up an additional $1,200 to $1,300 a year.  It's budgeting to be prepared for day-to-day operations and emergencies.

Chantel Millin with the Salvation Army in Tyler said, "You never know if something major were to happen, if we were to have a disaster and we needed to send out mail appeals, then we'd want to make sure that we have enough money in the budget to send out those things and not have to worry about it affecting us in a major way."

Those with the Salvation Army don't expect this to impact other programs.  The U.S. Postal Service is trying to make up for a loss of $5 billion in the latest fiscal year.
