Oklahoma women accused of stealing horses sentenced to prison

Posted: Updated:

Idabel, OK (KTBS) - An Oklahoma woman accused of stealing five horses from the Southern Arkansas University rodeo team stables in Magnolia, Arkansas was sentenced Monday.

Jaci Rae Jackson, 21, was sentenced by Judge Gary Brock in a McCurtain County, Oklahoma courtroom to 42 months in prison followed by seven years probation.
She pled guilty in Oklahoma to conspiracy, bringing stolen property across state lines, concealing stolen property, cruelty to animals and arson.
Four of the horses were found malnourished in McCurtain County and the fifth, named Credit Card, was found dead.

"I'm satisfied with the judge's ruling, but would like to have seen a harsher sentence," explained Mark Matlock, District Attorney.

Matlock says Jaci's mother, Wendi Cox, is still facing charges in Oklahoma.

"The influence of the mother clearly has an impact on this case, but Jackson had more than an ample opportunity to abandon the plan," said Judge Brock.
The SAU Justice League was formed as a result of the horse theft case.
Their group was in court and also believe Jackson should have gotten more jail time.

"We have to take into consideration that she was the one who started it, she could have stopped it, said Tammy Robinson, SAU Justice League. "Those horses would still be alive and running."
Jackson is expected to be sentenced again in just a few weeks.

In Arkansas, prosecutors have recommended a suspended sentence.
Jackson pled guilty in Arkansas to conspiracy to commit theft of property.
A February 6th sentencing date has been set in that state.

Three others, including Jackson's mother, have already been sentenced in Arkansas in connection with the case.

Wendi Cox was sentenced to 60 years in prison.

Billy Hamilton was sentenced to 25 years and George Berrish III was sentenced to 10 years.
