Two Jailed in ETX Drive-By Shooting

NACGODOCHES (KYTX) - Two Lufkin men are jailed after deputies conducted a 6 hour man hunt in connection with a drive-by shooting.

Nacgodoches Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that a 911 call came in around 9pm Tuesday of a reported drive- by shooting at Hills Drive Thru located on 59 south.

Two Hispanic males allegedly shot at a male and female who were outside the store in the process of closing the business.  A total of four rounds were shot at both victims, but neither of the victims were struck.

Both suspects then fled on highway 59 in a black Honda 2 door.

Deputies responded to the area and found that the suspect's wrecked out on FM 2782 at FM 225. Both suspects had fled on foot when deputies arrived on scene.

Deputies conducted a manhunt for about six hours. Both men were later found at 2:50 am Wednesday hiding in a pasture in the 6500 block of Cr. 724.

22-year-old Mario Ortega, and 24-year-old Orlando Melendez were both arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a 2nd felony and evading arrest. Melendez was also charged with Unlawful possession of a firearm by a felony a 3rd felony.
