Before you know it, fall will be here and it will be time to go back to school.  For parents that means stocking up on notebooks, number two pencils, and back to school clothes, all of which usually take a big chunk out of a family's budget.  So, just how much do parents will pay to send their kids off to school this year?More >>

Tyler (KYTX) -- A team of teachers visiting from across the world are hoping to learn more about schools in America. CBS19's Jaime Gerik spoke with the scholars from South Korea touring Tyler classrooms about what they're taking away from this experience.

The four elementary school teachers all teach English in South Korea. Saejung Lee says this career was always a passion for her.

"My family are most teachers," Lee, one of the scholars, said.

Lee tells me in South Korea, educators usually have to teach every subject, but that changed last year.

"If teachers are happy, students will be happy too," Lee said.

She's noticed some differences, like shorter breaks at our schools.

"The recess time is quite long in South Korea," Lee said.

She and the others agree they were impressed that teachers get time during work hours for lesson plans.

"We teachers got together after school or during the daytime so usually we sacrifice our life to making lesson plans or something like that"

The women are all part of the Fulbright American Studies Program--collaborating with UT Tyler.

"We're working really hard to provide educational opportunities for scholars around the world to come to UT Tyler," Teresa Kennedy, Executive Director of the Office of International Programs at UT Tyler, said.

These scholars just got back from spending 4 weeks in Austin where they learned about American culture and studying English.

"Our plan is to allow them to have a glimpse into University activities and see our schools here in Tyler," Kennedy said.

They'll be in Tyler another week staying with host families and taking education courses at UT Tyler.

This is the first experience of its kind for the college, as it just opened the Office of International Programs in July.
