LONGVIEW (KYTX) - High school students have spent the past few months competing against one another.

They have been competing for 1 out of 10 spots on a team that will paint this 140 ft. mural. Students submitted their work to judges, and the judges decided which one's would help paint. The effort is to promote art education, and spread it throughout Longview. Students chosen will receive a stipend, and will paint along side professional adult artists. The mural is for a new, low income housing project in North Longview.  John Allred is a student at Hallsville ISD, he was one of the ten chosen.
"It gives me an escape, a way to express myself. Everyone sees what I see" - John Allred, Hallsville ISD Student
