Search continues in Lindale for an armed robbery suspect

Posted: Updated:

LINDALE (KYTX) - Police are searching for an armed robbery suspect. Around 9:00 Friday morning a man was waiting at a stop sign in his car --when the suspect jumped in and tried to take the car.

Helicopters, dogs and lot and lots of law enforcement. Isn't what  you typically see in Lindale.

"Not used to this kind of commotion, Lindale is really quiet and something like this really shakes them up," said David Crakall who lives in the neighborhood. He saw the police presence and is still trying to piece together what happened.

"All I know about the situation is something about a gun and school," Crakell said.

Lindale police said a man driving a teal truck was dropping off money at the bank when he was attacked and the money was stolen.  He was sitting at a stop sign -- when a black man with a short hair cut, wearing black pants and a black shirt and a light color jacket hopped inside and attacked Friday.

"There was a struggle as they rolled down the street, during  the struggle, the black male pulled a handgun and hit the victim in the head," said Lindale Police lieutenant David Craft.

The victim --despite being hit in the head with a gun-- was able to push the suspect out the car...in the process, the suspect got away with money, but lost both shoes in the struggle.

"It is considered an aggravated robbery because the suspect used a weapon," Craft said.

The suspect ran from the scene, and being shoeless in the cold, law enforcement hoped they'd find him quickly.

Craft said, "They're gonna take a dog out and see if they can pick up a trail."

For hours, they patrolled the streets, searched woods and neighborhoods surround the area...even after freezing rain called off the helicopter search. Still no suspect.

Crakell says, despite the extra action in Lindale. He feels safe.

The victim in the attack had six stitches after his was hit in the head with the gun. But he was able to return to work. There was also a lock down at nearby Lindale schools during the search.

If you have any information that could lead to an arrest you are asked to call Lindale police.
