TYLER (KYTX) -

Lieutenant Governor candidate Jerry Patterson is asking for votes in East Texas as early voting in the republican primary continues.

Patterson was in Tyler Thursday talking about his A+ rating with the NRA and a background in the Marines. Patterson also touted his authorship of the state's concealed hand-gun law.

He took the opportunity to respond to Senator Dan Patrick who's running against him and thinks he's soft on immigration.

"Senator Patrick has unbelievably called me a proponent of amnesty," Patterson said. "I support the Republican Party of Texas platform. That's what I support. And I bet you, you can't find amnesty in there anywhere."

Patterson said Smith County's high voter turn-out and large percentage of republicans make it an important stop on the campaign trail.

Incumbent David Dewhurst and current Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples are also running in the republican primary for Lieutenant Governor.
