Capital murder suspect stonewalls child custody hearing

Posted: Updated:
TYLER (KYTX) -

Almost everyone in James Calvert's child custody case came to an agreement Friday about what to do with the capital murder defendant's children who are currently in foster care.

Closed-door meetings throughout the afternoon ended with an agreement between all the parties except Calvert.

Those parties include Texas Child Protective Services, Calvert's Mother, a male relative, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the Houston man who's been acting as a foster parent.

Calvert himself has fired his lawyers and chosen to do everything himself. He spent most of the afternoon meeting with everyone else. It's been nearly a year and a half since he was first accused of killing his ex-wife and kidnapping his young son.

Once in open court, Calvert spent his time launching objections against everyone else and visibly trying Judge Carole Clark's patience as she attempted to push all the parties toward a final session of mediation.

Calvert's child custody case continues with a hearing in March. The capital murder case is set for trial in October.
