Specialist: CPR training a positive just in case you need it

TYLER (KYTX) - A Florida infant is recovering after having to be resuscitated on a Florida expressway. Specialist say quick thinking relatives and good Samaritans, changed the outcome of the story.

CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey spoke to an east Texas CPS specialist who says most people won't use CPR, everyday but it's still great skill to have.

It's a simple thing, one that could save a life.

CPR, is what saved a 5-month old baby boy named Sebastian.

"I don't think there is any doubt if those people hadn't been  on the scene that baby wouldn't' be alive," said owner of "That CPR Place" Jack Caddell.

The ordeal unfolded on a Florida expressway.  A CPR trained good Samaritan jumped into action along with the infants aunt to save him.

"It's only important when you need and when you need it, it's nothing more important," said Caddell.

Caddell teaches CPR teaches CPR. He says, depending on the class size, it can take anywhere between one and two hours.

During the class they go the American Heart Association standard CPR raining that means they learn how to work on infants and adults.

"I think lots of people have insurance. I want insurance for  my family in case something happens in front of me at the Christmas table," Caddell said.

In addition to the standard CPR. The American Heart Association now supports hands only CPR.

This is a simpler version that would allow people new to CPR to step in to help when no other help is available.

It's two steps, call 9-1-1 first, then follow with rapid hand to chest compressions.

Caddell said, "It 'snot really that hard, just doing for the victims what they can't do for themselves."

He says that's not much when a person you love or even a stranger needs saving.
