Baby found alive in southeast Houston Dumpster

Posted: Updated:

HOUSTON (KHOU) – A vigilant maintenance worker found an infant Tuesday morning inside a dumpster at an apartment complex in southeast Houston, Houston police said.

He found the baby boy at about 8:30 a.m. at the Windmill Lakes Apartments located in the 9900 block of Windmill Lakes Boulevard.

The maintenance worker was throwing trash away at the dumpster when he saw something moving and heard a scream. He said he thought it was an animal in a plastic bag. He opened the white trash bag and found the baby.

The workers said the baby was purple and was having a hard time breathing. He appeared to be about 7 or 8 pounds.

Neighbors said they think they know who placed the child in the dumpster.

"The maintenance lady said that it's a young girl who is pregnant and is hiding it all the time," said Shawntal Posey.

Police are trying to figure out who the mother is and said they just know she's a young girl.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
