UPDATE:  A Tyler man is now charged with murder for the shooting death of his wife today.

Deputies arrested 29-year-old Adrian Mata after a manhunt this afternoon. He's accused of shooting his wife Jennifer in the head this morning at their home on County Road 3-33.

She later died from her injuries at ETMC in Tyler. Mata is also charged with aggravated assault/family violence with a deadly weapon.

He is being held on bonds totaling a million dollars. A motive for the shooting has not been released.

(KYTX) - Smith County Sheriff investigators say 29-year-old Adrian Ray Mata allegedly shot his wife in the head and then fled the scene.

At 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, Mata was located at a residence on Serenity Way in The Villages, off of FM 2661. He was taken into custody without incidence by the Smith County Sheriff's Office.

His wife, 30-year-old Jennifer Mata was taken to ETMC where she died of her injuries shortly after 3 p.m.

Mata faces a charge of murder and possibly faces additional charges. He will be booked in to the Smith County Jail.  Bail has not been set.

The shooting happened just after 11:00 Tuesday morning off Highway 271 North just outside of Loop 323 on County Road 333.

Deputies don't know what led up to the shooting, but say Mata fled the scene.

Tyler Police also assisted and searched an area near Rusk and Vine Streets for what officers believed was the suspect vehicle involved in the shooting. It was later determined the car was not involved in the incident.
