Bond elections called in Gladewater, White Oak, New Diana, Marshall

Posted: Updated:

GLADEWATER (KYTX) - White Oak school trustees have called a 25 million dollar bond election for a new high school, athletic field house and other improvements.

It's the third Longview-area school district to ask voters for debt-issued bond this May.

Bobbie Price lives across the street from Weldon Intermediate School in Gladewater and says she's happy that Gladewater ISD will renovate and expand the 81-year-old campus.

"I look at it every day," Price says, "and I would hate to see it .. I would like for it to stay there."

That's the plan proposed by Gladewater school trustees.

In a $35 million bond proposal, trustees want to renovate and expand Weldon intermediate to accommodate second- and third-graders from Broadway Elementary School, which would close if the bond passes.

Gladewater I. S.D. would also build a new middle school campus. It's one of at least three bond elections called for May 10.

Down Highway 80 from Gladewater, White Oak I. S.D. is considering a $25 million bond to build a new high school and buildings for fine arts and athletics.

And at New Diana I. S.D. north of Longview, voters will consider a $15 million bond proposal for a new gym, high school renovations and expansion of Robert F. Hunt Elementary School.

Tonight, Marshall I. S.D. trustees called a more than $150 million dollar bond proposal, which includes a new junior high school and four elementary schools, along with high school renovations.
