(CBS) - Dallas Stars Forward Rich Peverley is in stable this morning after collapsing during a game last night.

Frantic moments on the ice, when Peverly suddenly collapsed on the bench during the first period. It brought the game between the Dallas Stars and the Columbus Blue Jackets to an immediate stop. The team doctor says the 31 year old suffered a cardiac event. Peverley regained consciousness and emergency crews took him to a nearby hospital.

"We provided oxygen for him, we started an iv we did chest compressions on him and defibrillated him," says team doctor Dr. Gil Salazar.

Dallas Stars fan Blake Moss said, "It was kinda scary at first cuz no one really knew what was going on."

After Peverley's collapse players, coaches and fans where in no mood for hockey. Last night's game will now be rescheduled for later in the season. Peverley, an 8-year NHL Veteran has a history of heart issues. Before the start of the season, he had surgery to correct an irregular heart beat.
