East Texas woman killed while trying to save dog

PALESTINE (KYTX) - A woman attempting to retrieve her dog from a highway was struck and killed Monday afternoon.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers said 46 year old Cheri Lynn Hope of Palestine was hit by an SUV while attempting to get her dog out of the roadway that had been also struck by a vehicle.

Witnesses told DPS, Hope was partially in the travel lane of U.S. Highway 287 when she was hit by the vehicle.

The accident occurred south of Palestine, in Anderson County.

The incident is under investigation, according to DPS.
