UPDATE: Jaylon Rutherford was indicted April 24, 2014 for Aggravated Robbery, a first degree felony, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, a state jail felony. He remains in the Smith County jail with bond set at $240,000. His case was filed with Smith County's 114th District Court.



TYLER (KYTX) -- A Texarkana teen is jailed in connection with an armed robbery of a Tyler convenience store Tuesday morning.

Tyler police say 19-year-old Jaylon Rutherford is charged with with Aggravated Robbery, Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 in a Drug Free Zone, and Possession of Marijuana.

Rutherford is being held in the Smith County Jail on bonds totaling more than $240,000.

Around 2 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to the Food Fast in the 4200 block of University Boulevard because of a robbery. Once on scene, officers learned that a man carrying a handgun went into the store and demanded money from the clerk. 

Rutherford was taken into custody after multiple units responded to the Village at the U apartment complex near the University of Texas at Tyler just before 10 a.m. A person that lived at the apartment complex called police and stated that there was an unwanted male in their apartment unwilling to leave.

No one was injured during the robbery.
