AUSTIN (CBS/KEYE) - Two people died and 23 were injured when a car running from police crashed into a crowd at the South by Southwest Festival in Downtown Austin. The crash happened just after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

It began at the I-35 frontage road at 9th Street. Police were trying to pull over a silver Toyota for suspected drunk driving. Police say the car turned into a blocked road full of people. Two police cars followed him.

The driver almost hit an officer, went into the crowd, hit a moped killing a man and woman.  The car then hit a van and taxi. It ended at 11th and Red River Street outside the Mohawk club. Suspect is under arrest. He was not injured.

Police say he faces two counts of capital murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle. Of the 23 people injured, five are in critical condition.

--All started around 12:30 a.m.  People in line near Mohawk to see punk band "X"

--All happened within a minute or two

--APD marked unit/ DWI enforcement tried to pull over silver Toyota near Shell Station (at I-35 and 9th Street

--Male turned down 9th then Red River and slammed through barricades

--2 APD cruisers with lights and sirens follow him 

--Almost runs into APD officer

--Runs into a crowd of people

--Accelerates runs into another crowd of people

--Keeps going runs into moped with man and woman on it. That man and woman killed

--Hits taxi, no word of injuries

--Driver then hits parked van and crashes out near 11th and Red River --Police uses a taser on him and get him into custody
