Dr. Larry Goddard re-elected until 2017

TYLER (KYTX)- Texas Governor Rick Perry announced this past week that he is re-appointing Dr. Larry Goddard, Tyler, to continue service on the OneStar Foundation Board and National Service Commission Board for a term extension to the year 2017.  Dr. Goddard was originally named by Governor Perry in 2011.

Carol Treadway from the Governor's office released this statement along with a signed letter from the Governor.

"Larry Goddard of Tyler is a certified fundraising executive and consultant. He is member chapters of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) in Tyler, Fort Worth and Austin.  He is former advisory council member of the American School Foundation Alliance (ASFA). Not only is Dr. Goddard a certified fund raising executive (CFRE); he is a trainer and active internationally of CFRE International, a past instructor and certification trainer for the National School Foundation Association (NSFA), fundraising trainer and award recipient for the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA), and education foundation chair of the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA).  He won the organization's highest honor—Key Communicator of Texas Education (prior winners have been H.Ross Perot and Henry Cisneros).   Goddard was named Most Valuable Member of TSPRA and has won multiple top awards and best in categories in print, media, public relations, and district communications competitions.

Goddard is vice president of the Tyler Pounds Field Airport Advisory Board. He is also a past director of the Tyler Industrial Board and Goodwill Industries Board of Tyler, past president of Sister Cities of Tyler, and a past member of the Texas A&M University at Commerce Association of Former Students Board of Directors.  He has been awarded on the international level for his work with undergraduate students in Sigma Chi social fraternity; wrote feature articles for IN Magazine; was the youngest promoted to a top level at Southwestern Bell, and was Vice President-Development for fifteen years at Texas A&M University-Commerce.  He is well sought for training seminars and speaking engagements as well as well publicized writer and presenter of educational communications, bond preparation and community relations.

Goddard received bachelor's degree, master's degree in business management and counseling, and a doctorate of business and public relations degree. He is reappointed to the board. He has served as Treasurer and now on grant programming.

Dr. Larry Goddard of Tyler is President and Founder of "The Goddard Company", a consortium for school districts' education foundations state-wide to bring private philanthropic dollars to public K-12 districts for supplanting new and innovative programs into the underserved school districts.  He served for seven years as the executive director of the Tyler Independent School District Foundation. The number of donors increased by 22 times the amount as before he joined the staff;  and the level of donations increased more than tenfold.  The past school year, Dr. Goddard met his goal by 530% and won six national awards for school districts' communications and public relations departments and education foundations.

"OneStar connects faith-based and community organizations, businesses, government and foundations to resources and information about the nonprofit sector. The Texas Connector geo-mapping tool is a great example of our work to strengthen the nonprofit infrastructure through linking community needs with nonprofit solutions," explains Goddard.

"OneStar promotes the nonprofit sector and innovative public-private partnerships to drive community solutions. We believe that a strong nonprofit sector depends upon effective civic engagement. For example, OneStar chairs the Inter-Agency Coordinating Group (ICG), a legislatively mandated group consisting of 25 state agencies charged with making it easier for faith-based and community organizations to work with state agencies to better serve Texans," continued Goddard, "The most productive action in the tax exempt realm today is to eliminate the ‘silo' operations and so many duplications of duties and waste of tax revenues."

"OneStar convenes statewide nonprofit networks, developing a coordinated approach to building the strongest, most impactful nonprofit sector. For example, we convene the Nonprofit Management Alliance of Texas (NMAT) promoting high quality affordable management and governance strengthening services to Texas Nonprofits," concluded Goddard.  "That is what I find the most gratifying—promoting high quality, affordable assistance while strengthening and closely scrutinizing the efficiencies of Texas tax exempt organizations.  I feel that scrutiny will become closer and more viable in the future as donors want to know their donations are well stewarded and grant funders see measurable results—hopefully successful results!"

Goddard has more than 32 years in volunteer service to the Tyler community, our educators, students and areas of greatest needs in our region.  In 2008, he was named "Citizen of the Year" by the East Texas Council of Governments.  Dr. Goddard is an ordained clergy and has officiated many weddings and funerals in our area.  Larry is a world-wide traveler and has explored all seven continents.  He may be reached at
