Lindale Science field trip students safe after Dallas gunman taken into custody

Posted: Updated:

LINDALE (KYTX) - A group of students from Lindale ISD were on a science field trip at the Dallas Aquarium Tuesday when a man fired shots inside a downtown luxury apartment complex nearby.

Lindale Superintendent Stan Surratt tells CBS 19, the students were kept safe inside the aquarium building during the stand-off with police, and were not aware of the incident until it ended shortly after 1 p.m.

The Dallas Aquarium located on North Griffen Street, was one of many downtown buildings placed on lock down after Dallas Police responded to reports of shots fired inside of the Vista Dallas apartments, located in the 2300 block of Houston Street.

According to CBSDFW, the suspect was taken into custody  after the Dallas SWAT deployed gas into the suspect's fifth floor apartment in the seven-story high-rise. The suspect had barricaded himself inside of the apartment for more than two hours.
