Children are a Gift: Ian

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) – Ian enjoys being outside and staying active. "I like to play sports. I like playing football and I like playing basketball. I like playing baseball as well," he said.

While he is outgoing playing sports, this teenager is quiet and reserved. "When I'm around people I get shy cause I don't know them and it's hard for me to communicate with people I don't know."

Mallory Waugh, his Child Protective Services Caseworker adds, "He enjoys going to dances with girls, but he's pretty nervous. Usually he just hangs back and watches the girls and wishes he was brave enough to dance with then."

Ian is very honest and always respectful of others. "He's a complete sweetheart. At his [foster care] placement he is one of the favorite kids," said Waugh.

At 15-years-old, Ian realizes his wait for a forever family may be long. Waugh explained, "When we were sitting there talking he said, 'You know most of the families only want little kids, don't you?' He's just afraid that someone won't see all the wonderful things that he has to offer which is a shame because he's a sweet heart of a kid."

Unfortunately, Ian has spent a total of six years in foster care with one failed adoption. "I don't know who's going to adopt me the second time and I don't know what it's going to be like, so I'm kind of nervous for that," he said shyly gazing at the ground.

"Unfortunately the system has failed him and it's just been a constant struggle of one person after another failing him and at fifteen that can be hard to work through," Waugh said.

This young man needs a lot of unconditional love from a family committed to sticking with him. Waugh said, "I know there is a family that has a hole in their heart that is shaped just like Ian that only he can fill."
