We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

MARSHALL (KYTX) – Christian Rapper and author Trip Lee visited East Texas Baptist University Wednesday to preach in chapel.

Trip Lee is one of the leading Christian hip-hop artists and is a four-time Dove award nominee.

Trip Lee is a member of the Reach Records family and has released four albums with the label. His most recent album, The Good Life, was released in 2012 and includes songs featuring Lecrae, Andy Mineo, KB, and Jimmy Needham. The Good Life debuted at number 17 on the Billboard 200 making it the third-highest charting Christian hip-hop album of all time.

Dr. Scott Bryant, University Chaplain and Vice President for Spiritual Development at ETBU, was thrilled to introduce the students to Trip Lee's passion for the Bible and the local church. According to Bryant, "Most students know about Trip Lee's music, but they didn't know until his visit to chapel, that he is a gifted preacher as well. The students were listening intently and heard a powerful message regarding God's grace and salvation as a gift that we cannot earn."

In addition to his ministry through music, Trip is currently involved in ministering through the local church as he is currently serving as a pastoral intern at his church in Washington D.C. .

Donnie de la Cruz, a Senior Religion major from Modesto, California, was impressed by Trip's message in chapel. He stated, "Trip did a really good job showing me that I cannot depend on the things that I have done in order earn salvation. To hear someone as successful as Trip say that we need to rely completely on Jesus really hit home with me and reminds me that I need to fully rely on the Lord."

Trip's visit to ETBU was a bit of a surprise to students as the university used social media late Tuesday to help spread the word about Trip's visit. According to Bryant, "We were hesitant to promote the event because Trip's plane was scheduled to arrive late Tuesday evening in Shreveport and if his flight was cancelled for any reason it would have been a great disappointment for our students.  Once we

confirmed that Trip's flight was on the ground in Shreveport we began to spread the news."

Taylor Stewart, a Freshman Biology major from Kilgore didn't believe that Trip Lee was going to be in chapel when she first saw it on Twitter.  She said, "When I first saw on Twitter that Trip Lee was speaking at chapel, I couldn't help but think it wasn't true but I was so excited that I actually went to chapel 30 minutes early so we would get a good seat up close. It was definitely an experience I'll never forget."
