Two ETX Medical Doctors Reprimanded by Texas Medical Board

MARSHALL (KYTX)- On February 7, 2014, the Board and William Gibson Simpson, M.D., entered into an Agreed Order requiring Dr. Simpson to within one year complete the professional boundaries course offered by the University of California San Diego Physician Assessment and Clinical Education program.

Within one year and three attempts pass the Medical Jurisprudence Exam; and pay an administrative penalty of $3,000 within 60 days. The Board found Dr. Simpson violated professional boundaries with a female patient and admitted to having a sexual relationship with the patient.


 

TITUS COUNTY (KYTX)- On January 14, 2014, the Board and Gary B. Cole, M.D., entered into an Agreed Order requiring Dr. Cole to have his practice monitored by another physician for eight consecutive monitoring cycles.

Within one year complete at least 12 hours of in person CME, divided as follows: eight hours in risk management and four hours in ethics; and pay an administrative penalty of $2,000 within 60 days.

The Board found Dr. Cole self prescribed Restoril (a sleep medication) without supporting medical records and beyond the 72 hour period of immediate need set out in Board rules and on two occasions Dr. Cole was written prescriptions by APN's employed by him without supporting medical records showing physical examinations by the APNs.
