CHAPEL HILL (KYTX) -

Though most of East Texas made it through Friday's quick but violent storms with minimal damage, one family had a huge surprise when a giant pine tree blew down and landed on the roof of their home.

"The gust of wind and sideways rain came," Kobin Reynolds said.

Reynolds had been working in his shop next to his home when the storm began to pass through.

"I heard the cracking and I looked to my right back to the house and saw it up root and just kind of tomahawk into the roof of the house."

Reynolds said he ran inside and found his bedroom pretty close to demolished.

"Yeah it's still leaking some," he said as he looked at a caved in ceiling above a floor filled with insulation and pieces of sheet rock.

Insurance will pay for the damage, and everyone in Reynolds' family is safe. A group of neighbors came to help cut up the tree and throw tarps over the roof.

"It's nature. Just goes to show you can't take things for granted," Reynolds said. "Things can change in a heartbeat."
