Web Exclusive: Automatic kill switch could save consumers big money

Posted: Updated:

(CBC/CNN) - Should smart phones come with an automatic kill switch that would let people automatically disable their phone if stolen? According to a new study, it would save consumers about $2.5 billion dollars a year.  Researchers at Creighton University say the big savings would come from lower insurance premiums because the switch would deter thieves.

With the new baseball season underway, website Swimmingly.com priced out how much it would cost to propose at  a major league ball park.  The most expensive is Los Angeles Dodger Stadium where $2,500 dollars will get your proposal featured live on the video board.
In most ball parks, it costs less than $500 bucks!

Home prices in many parts of the country are still 20% below their housing boom peak.
But demand for large, luxury apartments has helped home prices in manhattan almost fully recover from the housing bust. During the first quarter, the median sales price for a condo or co-op in Manhattan rose 18.5% year-over-year, to $972,000 dollars.
That's according to real estate company Douglas Elliman.  Elliman, along with brokers Halstead Property and Corcoran Group, have reported sales volume in Manhattan was up 25% or more in the first quarter.  Inventory still remains very tight, with homes often being snapped up in bidding wars.
