Longview Police; Bank Scam Alert

Posted: Updated:

Longview Police Department:

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - The bank card schemers are at it again. If, or when, you receive a message telling you to contact Community Bank DO NOT call them back.

Once again, LPD reminds citizens to avoid giving out any personal information over the phone or internet. Banks, credit card companies, or other financial or information based companies will not call and ask you to verify your information with them.

If a business calls attempting to offer you a product or service, even if it's free, ask for their Better Business Bureau rating. Then, verify that rating before deciding whether or not to be a customer of that business.

If you receive a letter requesting personal information verify by calling YOUR local bank or business, not the number on the letter.

Please pass the word on to those who might not have access to computers or the elderly, who unfortunately are victimized more often.

People must make every effort to safeguard their information in today's digital world. When shopping or banking online verify that the website being used is the official website of the company, not a fraudulent one.
