Jack Elementary named Lighthouse School by Franklin Covey's The Leader in Me

Updated:

TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH- Dr. Bryan C. Jack Elementary School has been recognized for its work toward building leaders.

The Tyler ISD campus was named a Lighthouse School by Franklin Covey's The Leader in Me, which is a whole-school transformation model designed to help students thrive and produce better academic achievement, fewer discipline problems and increased student engagement, according to its website.

Jack is one of 75 Lighthouse schools in the world, according to a TISD news release.

Through the initiative, faculty and staff at the school regularly incorporate leadership components into their daily curriculum.

The faculty and staff encourage students to take on leadership roles at school and track their progress in notebooks.

Parents review the notebooks with their children and discuss ways they can continue the leadership practices at home, according to the news release.

In order to become a Lighthouse School, Jack personnel had to complete a series of training sessions, observations, reviews and documentation. The process took at least three years.

FranklinCovey representatives are scheduled to present the school with a special banner marking its achievement during a ceremony tonight. State Sen. Kevin Eltife and other community leaders are scheduled to speak, according to the news release.

In addition to the school's recognition, Principal Shauna Hittle was selected by FranklinCovey as a Leader in Me consultant.
