Web Exclusive: Turning to your smartphone for tax help

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - The deadline to file your federal income taxes for 2013 is just about a week away. It might be a bit late to get an appointment with a tax preparer, but it's not too late to download a handy tax preparing app onto your smartphone or tablet.

If you don't own a home and have the most basic income sources, turbo tax's free Snap Tax app might be for you.  Download this app onto your android or iPhone and you could complete your return in 10 minutes flat. Snap a photo of your W2, pay the $15 dollar state return fee, file directly from the app and turbo tax guarantees 100% accuracy and the biggest return possible.

Another great option for uncomplicated returns is H&R Block's 1040ez app. It too is free to download for both operating systems and allows photo submissions of key documents and direct filing of both federal and state returns for $9.99.  H&R Block also offers their tax preparation app for more complicated returns. It's free to download onto iPads and allows you to upgrade so you can switch back and forth between your tablet and computer.  Whichever H&R block app you choose, an added benefit is support from an actual tax agent in case you get audited.
