Medical Examiner's Findings on Kaufman Co. Dog Attack

Updated:

KAUFMAN (KYTX) - At approximately 4:46 p.m., Monday, March 31, the Kaufman Police Department was notified by the Kaufman County Sheriff Department that they had received a 911 call in reference to a deceased female at 1404 East First North Street in the City of Kaufman.

Kaufman Police arrived on scene at approximately 4:48 p.m. and discovered 85 year old Dorothy Hamilton deceased in the living room area of the residence. There were two large, very aggressive Pit Bulls inside the residence and it appeared that the animals had attacked Hamilton.

Officers were advised by the victim's son, who is the owner of the animals, that he had been keeping the dogs inside the residence for several months. Further investigation revealed that the dogs were being kept in a bedroom but had broken through the door to get at the victim.

A total of eight Pit Bulls were seized from the property, including the two animals from inside the residence.

An autopsy is being performed on the victim to determine the exact cause of death. At this time, no charges have been filed in this case.

UPDATE:

The Kaufman Police Department has received the "Cause of Death Report" from the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office. The report listed the Cause of Death as:

  •             "Dog Mauling with Lacerations and Puncture Wounds"
  •             The Manner of Death was listed as "Accident".

The Kaufman Police Department will be forwarding its findings to the Kaufman County District Attorney's Office for referral to a Grand Jury.
