Before you know it, fall will be here and it will be time to go back to school.  For parents that means stocking up on notebooks, number two pencils, and back to school clothes, all of which usually take a big chunk out of a family's budget.  So, just how much do parents will pay to send their kids off to school this year?More >>

Jacksonville (KYTX) -- Staff at the Jacksonville Police Department are devastated at the loss their friend and coworker killed in a car crash Monday afternoon.

"We're going to honor her for the person she was," Chief Reece Daniel, of the Jacksonville Police Department, said.

At 35 years old, dispatcher Amber Enge's life was cut short.

"It's hard for me to talk about it, because she was one of those rare people you meet that everybody just instantly liked her," Daniel said.

Daniel says Amber joined the department almost a year ago, with not only winning skills, but a winning personality.

"She was happy every day, she had a great attitude every day. She was sort of the light of the department," Daniel said.

He got the call Monday from DPS asking him to confirm the identity of a driver involved in a crash south of Yarborough Lane in Whitehouse.

"Who was on her way to work in that rain storm and apparently lost control of her vehicle," Daniel said.

It turned out to be Amber, in uniform. She was driving a 1968 Mustang that swerved off the road and hit a tree on the driver's side.

"When you lose a member suddenly, it leaves a hole," Daniel said.

In honor of Amber, the police department is flying a flag at half staff today. But that doesn't make it any easier to sit in the dispatch division today-- where an emptiness lingers.

"She has a friend in there that they were like Forest Gump said, 'carrots and peas.' And she is really taking it hard," Daniel said.

Daniel said Enge leaves behind a teenage son and parents, who live in the area.
