TYLER (KYTX) - A Boulter Middle School cheerleader has a whole district rooting for her.
For the past two years, 12-year old Bre'Shauna Washington has been fighting a form of blood cancer found mostly in children.

As CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey finds out -- for this young lady, every day is one more day to cherish.

Every day Bre'Shauna Washington wakes up with a smile on her face.

"She's very outgoing and nothing can stop her, absolutely nothing," said Washington's mother Tyrhonda Sherfield.

At 12 years old, Washington is fighting the biggest battle of her life. It's against t-cell lymphoma: a type of blood cancer that has created a mass in her chest.

"Sometimes I sleep all day and don't even know it," Washington said.

Bre'Shauna is a sixth grade, a cheerleader at Boulter Middle school, and despite the stress of being so young with cancer, her spirit is one to be recognized.

"She's teaching us actually how to live life and face challenges head on," said Boulter principal Rodney Curry.

He says although having cancer has kept Bre'Shauna from the classroom, when she's there, she goes above the call of duty.

"Bre'Shauna will certainly be a student that will live in my heart... She has the will to do and she will do it," Curry said.

A month ago, doctors gave her a few days to live, that's when her mother's mind began racing.

"I need to plan a  funeral, I need to this I need to do that, but then when I heard  her say I think god is gonna heal my body I was like whoa wait a  minute and it's like this little girl is using her faith so you  have no choice but to stand behind her," her mom said.

Soon after the sad prognosis, doctors noticed, --without any chemo treatment-- the cancerous mass began to shrink on its own.

This family says, the updated news was nothing short of miraculous.

"That's the approach we took with this, that God has the  final say."

TISD is proud of this girl's ability to persevere and inspire. Last week she was one of a few students selected to participate in the ground- breaking ceremony for the new Boulter Middle School. If construction goes as planned, Bre'Shauna will start eighth grade at the new school.
