Parent Says Child Was Stuck by a Syringe a at Hallsville School

Posted: Updated:

HALLSVILLE (KYTX) - "When little Tyler Kelly's father found out that he might've been  stuck with a needle, he dropped everything and got to the hospital as quickly as possible."

"I asked him if he was stuck, or poked and he said no. But he said some of the dirty red stuff got on him. And I assume he meant blood." - Michael Kelly.

A scary moment for Michael Kelly's son.
"When I asked him where he pointed to his left hand, and there appears
to be a needle stick."
4-year old Tyler Kelly goes to pre-k here, at the Little Cats Learning Center in Hallsville. his father says Friday morning, his son found a syringe on the school's playground. He picked it up and gave it to his teacher.
"I told him if this happens again, throw your hands in the air and
yell don't touch. And then find a teacher."
Kelly says teachers then found at least one more syringe. Our phone calls to Hallsville ISD were not returned. But we did receive this E-mail.  it confirms that Tyler did find that first syringe at the school, it goes on to state that the school nurse did not find any puncture wounds
on Tyler.
But no one knows where the needles came from or if they were used. And Kelly says his ER trip found out something different on Tyler's skin.  This release form from a Doctor at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview was completed only a few hours after school Friday.  On it a doctor reports finding an acute needle stick on Tyler's hand.  Kelly says the stick could only come from one place.
"It's impossible that it could've happened at my home. I don't keep
needles, and we were gone to the hospital just minutes after he got
off the bus."
The needles were sent by the Hallsville Police Department to the
Kelly's Doctor for examination to see if those needles could be
contaminated.
"We just think the public should know. In case another child found them first."
Hallsville ISD's email says that playgrounds at all of its schools have been checked and cleared.
