UPDATE: The woman involved in a head-on crash involving students from Whitehouse ISD has died of her injuries.

The Harris County Medical Examiners office tells CBS 19, 52-year-old Joan Marie Novak died early Tuesday morning from multiple injuries suffered in the car crash April 13, 2014.

WHARTON (KYTX) -- A woman accused of driving drunk and hitting several Whitehouse ISD vehicles should have had a device in her car that kept her from driving under the influence.

Investigators say Joan Marie Novak was driving the wrong way on Highway 59 in Wharton Saturday night when she slammed head-on into a car carrying a Whitehouse ISD teacher and students.

The teacher and two students had to be air-lifted to a Houston hospital with serious injuries. They are expected to make a full recovery.

Novak was on bond for a previous DWI conviction and was supposed to have a device that would check her blood alcohol content installed in her car.  Any trace of alcohol in her system would have prevented her from getting behind the wheel.

Novack agreed to have a blood test, authorities are awaiting results.
