Web Exclusive: Business encourages people to break things as stress reliever

Posted: Updated:

(CBS/KBOI) - A Boise, Idaho business is here to help you let off a little steam.  It's not a gym or a therapist, as you might expect.  It's called "recreational destruction."

You can take a swing at a variety of things from lamps, to dishes, electronics, vacuums and large-scale furniture.

Tom Farrenkopf owns "Das Breakroom" on Orchard Street in Boise.  He encourages you to suit up and pick your weapon.

"Here at Das Breakroom, our sole purpose is to provide a place for people to engage in recreational destruction," said Tom Farrenkopf, who owns the business. "What we mean by that is come in and break stuff."

"I was having a horrible week, and I found myself on the verge of tears," said Lindsey Shultz of Boise, "and I was just pacing back and forth, like, 'What am I going to do? I'm so frustrated right now,' and I walked here and broke an entire box of stuff, and 10 minutes later, I felt perfect, fine."

The owner opened up April 15, the same day the Feds want your money.
"Tonight is an opportunity for you to come down and vent that frustration that you have from filling out all those forms and paying those taxes," says Tom.

The store has happy hours before and after work as well. You can pay $3 to break one item. The other prices depend on what you want to smash.

The idea isn't to hurt anyone, just to let off some steam.
