Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued Monday for East Texas

Posted: Updated:
(KYTX) - A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is effect for most counties in East Texas until 10 p.m. Monday.

The watch includes, Anderson, Hunt, Delta, Kaufman, Cherokee, Smith, Titus, Van Zandt, Wood, Franklin, Henderson, Hopkins, Rains, Camp, and Upshur counties in  East Texas.

CBS 19 Meteorologist John Adams forecast calls for an upper air trough of low pressure will move eastward across North Texas this afternoon followed by a trailing cold front that will sweep across the area tonight.

Showers and thunderstorms will begin to develop this afternoon along the Red River, and thunderstorms are expected to develop shortly thereafter south of the Metroplex.

Any of these storm have the potential to become severe and produce large hail and damaging winds as they track eastward across East Texas. The rain will move out of the area overnight leaving mostly sunny skies behind for Tuesday.

There will be little change in temperatures, so we can expect highs to continue in the low 80s and lows in the mid 60s through the weekend. Winds will be mostly from the south 5 to 15 mph. There will be a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday, Friday night and Saturday, and Sunday through Monday.
