Investigators looking into woman's death in connection to Joseph Miller

Posted: Updated:
Mineola (KYTX) -- The arrest of an East Texas Baptist Church deacon charged with murder is prompting a new investigation. Mineola Police are taking a look at a 1991 case to see if Joseph Miller had any connection to his girlfriend at the time of her death.

Selina McDowell was found dead in her home from a gunshot wound to the chest. It was ruled a suicide, but her mom has never believed her daughter shot herself.

"I'll go to my grave saying no," Faye McCann, a resident in Mineola, said.
Selina died at the young age of 28.

"She was a good person. Everyone in town liked her," McCann said.
McCann didn't want to go on camera, but told me about the man Selina was seeing at the time of her death.

"He told her he would kill her if she leave him," McCann said.

They knew him as Roy Eubanks, who's true identity is Joseph Miller. He was on the run from authorities until he was arrested Monday at his home in Mineola. He's accused of killing a man in Harrisburg Pennsylvania in 1981.

Selina's mom says even people at the crime scene told her they weren't convinced.

"He said I really don't think she did it herself because she didn't have powder burns or nothing on her," McCann said.
McCann says Eubanks always held different ID's, looking different in each picture. She also said there was evidence he used drugs and was violent.

"He beat her one time with a belt. She had big buckle belts all over her back. And he can't say he didn't do it, because I've seen it," McCann said.

Mineola Police Chief Charles Bittner says the investigative unit starting working on the case again on Tuesday night at the request of Selina's family.

He says there is still a long way to go to determine if Miller had any involvement.

Miller is still being held in the Wood County jail.
