(CNN) - As we approach high school graduation in the next few months for many high school graduates, college seems like the next logical step.  But according to new data, college enrollment is dropping.

It's a decision every student faces -- take on additional school with college or start working and it seems that now, a lot more high school grads are choosing a paycheck over more years in school.

The blog 538 crunched the numbers from the bureau of labor statistics and found that of the graduating class of 2013, 65.9% of graduates went on to college and this is notable because it is the lowest college enrollment rate since 2006.

The drop could be attributable to many things, the improving economy or the rising cost of college.

538 notes that the drop in grads going on to college appeared to be concentrated among those more likely to be deciding between attending a community college or jumping right in to work and said this might be a sign that they're having better luck in the labor market -- with more and better jobs available.

It is notable that if you break out the four-year college attendance rates, those rates are rising. So the drop really seems to be very specific to those deciding either to attend a community college or going on to work.
