Jury selection for Ricky Neal Jr. murder trial ends

Posted: Updated:
TYLER (KYTX) - The jury for 26-year-old Ricky Neal Jr.'s murder trial started at 10:30 Tuesday morning and ended at 5:30.

The trial begins tomorrow morning at 8:30.

Judge Kerry Russell with the 7th District Court set the time after a pretrial hearing at 8:30 a.m. During that hearing, Judge Russell tied up some loose ends.

The prosecution and the defense lawyers decided they may have to bring up information during the trial about the possible gang affiliation of the victim, the defendant, and some of the witnesses.

Neal then confirmed to Judge Russell that if he were found guilty, he would like the jury to decide his punishment. Neal's lawyer Thad Davidson also told Judge Russell he believes Neal will eventually take the stand during trial.

Neal is accused of shooting and killing 23-year-old Chris Mass last February outside the Broadway Square Mall in Tyler.
